Georgia Construction CareerExpo

Words: Dan KamysMore than 2,000 high school students participated in the first annual Georgia Construction CareerExpo on April 28-29 at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds.

The event, sponsored by the Construction Education Foundation of Georgia (CEFGA) and more than 100 companies and trade associations, is designed to promote careers in construction.

The two-day event included interactive exhibits in masonry, painting, electrical, plumbing, sprinkler fitting, heavy equipment operations, general contracting and more. Students met and interacted with construction professionals and learned more about training, education programs and career paths in the construction industry.

The event was held in conjunction with the SkillsUSA Georgia Construction Competition, where more than 100 of the state's top high school students took part in trade competitions. The winners of these contests go on to the National SkillsUSA Competition in Kansas City, June 23-24.
