Instructor Honors Student

Words: Dan KamysSeventeen-year-old Le Dao of Bellevue, Ky., was singled out by his masonry instructor long before Dao qualified for the National Masonry Contest.

"Le is an exceptional student who has worked very hard for the many accomplishments he has achieved," masonry instructor Jimmy Lee Porter wrote. "I hope you will honor him for these achievements by featuring him in your monthly spotlight of young masons." That we will, Jimmy!

Dao is a Bellevue High School student at C.E. McCormick Area Technology Center in Alexandria, Ky. He has maintained a straight-A average in both academic and skills training for two years while compiling a near-perfect attendance record. In addition, he has enthusiastically participated in several school masonry projects in the community.

Porter describes his student as a very dedicated and hard working young man. He says that Dao sets goals for himself and achieves them. For instance, he told Porter that he would strive to win the Kentucky SkillsUSA masonry competition and compete in the National Masonry Contest held in conjunction with the SkillsUSA National Leadership Conference, both of which he did.

Other honors for Dao include his nomination for the J. D. Patterson Award and the Gary Mulligan Award, honoring the top students at C.E. McCormick ATC each year.

Dao plans to attend Northern Kentucky University this fall where he will study business and pharmacy.
