LECET Safety Incentive Program
By Masonry
The Chicago Area Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust (LECET) is proud to announce the LECET Safety Incentive Program.
The Construction & General Laborers' District Council of Chicago and Vicinity and Chicago Area LECET have pledged to cooperate in an effort to encourage union laborers who work safely. One of the general purposes of LECET is to develop programs that advance the health and safety of laborers employed in the construction industry and their families, as well as the health and safety of the public affected by the industry. However, reducing accidents is not only good economic sense, it is a moral obligation for all of us.
The Safety Incentive Program (SIP) is not intended to replace an individual company's safety policy or culture but to enhance it. The LECET SIP is designed to lower injuries, illnesses and workers' compensation costs.
Eligible participants are union laborers who are field construction workers and members in good standing with any participating labor local affiliated with the Construction & General Laborers' District Council of Chicago and Vicinity. Participants must also show that they have no lost time or OSHA recordable event due to a work-related accident or illness, and must have worked a stipulated number of hours in a calendar quarter as verified by contributing contractors in good standing with LECET in order to be considered for a quarterly award.
On a quarterly basis, one contractor for every 20 contractors in each of the participating contractor associations will be randomly selected by LECET and asked to nominate laborers who have worked safely for their organization. If an association has less than 10 contractors, each of these associations' contractors will be grouped together for purposes of this selection process. One contractor for every 100 independent contractors will also be randomly selected to nominate safety conscious laborers. One eligible individual from each contractor list will be randomly selected to receive a quarterly award. A contractor selected by the above process will not be eligible for a quarterly award the remainder of the calendar year.
Also, in early 2006, the LECET SIP will host the 4th Annual Safety Awards luncheon. Similar to the quarterly selection process detailed above, LECET's union contractors will be asked to nominate union laborers that have worked safely for their organization during 2005. LECET will then randomly select finalists from those nominees to attend the Safety Awards luncheon. One of these finalists will drive home the grand prize - a new 2006 truck!
If you have any questions or comments concerning the LECET SIP, please contact Patrick S. Hosty at (630) 655-8935. And thank you for helping LECET's union laborers and union contractors strive to become "Safety Driven."
