Prestigious Tucker Design Award Recipients Named

Building Stone Institute (BSI), one of the country's oldest natural stone trade associations, announced the recipients of the biennial Tucker Design Awards for 2006. The awards ceremony was held at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco on May 19.

First presented in 1977, the Tucker Design Awards are recognized as one of the most prestigious architectural design awards in both the building and landscape industries. The Tucker Design Awards honor those who achieve the criteria of excellence in concept, design, construction and the use of natural stone.

"These are an impressive group of recipients from around our country and the world," said Jeff Buczkiewicz, BSI executive vice president. "The winners represent the absolute finest building and landscape projects utilizing natural stone. Our Tucker Design Awards celebrate the innovation and vision that designers bring to their projects by specifying and using natural stone building materials."

Distinguished jurors for this year's Tucker Design Awards were: Gordon H. Chong, FAIA, founding partner of Chong Partners Architecture and past president of the American Institute of Architects; and Richard Macias, ASLA, campus planner, San Francisco State University, and co-author of "Community Design Management," the definitive planner for urban design, revitalization and planning.
