International Conference on Concrete Block Paving

Words: Derek SpurlockThe Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute Foundation, sister to the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute and the Small Element Paving Technologists, is holding the eighth International Conference on Concrete Block Paving at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, Nov. 6-8. The conference theme, "Sustainable Paving for the Future," speaks to the ability of segmental concrete pavements to address total environment design — ecological, energy, safety and visual design needs for the 21st century. The conference will emphasize storm water management with permeable interlocking pavements, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and design for the disabled.

Every three years, researchers, consultants, design professionals, contractors and professors — all enthusiasts in segmental concrete pavement — gather from around the world to exchange information in the continuing series of international conferences. Since 1980, the conferences have provided a rich technical exchange, as well as design, construction and maintenance technology to advance the worldwide industry of segmental concrete pavement.

The 2006 conference has been expanded to include technical paper sessions, continuing education sessions for practicing design professionals and a university professor's workshop.
