Immigration Reform Update

By Jessica Johnson Bennett

Immigration continues to be the subject of state legislation and Federal Agency Actions.
Immigration continues to be the subject of state legislation and Federal Agency Actions.

As you are aware, efforts to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform failed again recently in late June. However, Immigration continues to be in the news, the subject of state legislation, and the subject of Federal Agency Actions. It is important to note that every member of MCAA who employs any individual will be subject to new regulations being issued.

You can click here to download the FEWA Seminar Flyer with information on upcoming Seminars in both the East and West, which can provide in depth information on how to maneuver a complex regulatory system as well as how to learn about and understand the complex set of regulations set forth by both the Federal Government in addition to laws implemented at the State and local levels. Below you will find a few quick updates on pending actions at the federal level.

No-Match Rule to be issued by the Department of Homeland Security
According to sources on the Hill and the Administration, the "No-Match" rule publication will be put forth to the public at some point before the end of summer. We continue to work with Hill staff and other advocates on a potential legislative and/or litigation remedy to this rule. Please visit www.gtlaw.com/practices/immigration/news/2007/07/06.htm for additional information on the Rule.

Further Legislative Action
We continue to work with with folks in the House and Senate to discuss potential legislation to address the current immigration problem.

As always if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via phone or email at jjohnsonbennett@masoncontractors.org.
