More than 200 registrants from 45 different countries will compete in the 2nd Annual BrickStainable International Design Competition.
The 2nd Annual BrickStainable International Design Competition has attracted teams from 45 different countries to take on the challenge of designing a sustainable net-zero structure using brick as the primary building material.

The Competition, now in its second year, has already received 205 registrants from 45 different countries and is expecting the number to increase before the closing date. With a November 15th registration deadline, the international Competition roster currently includes 14 returning entrants, 19 sponsors and 9 organization endorsements.

“I have been very surprised and delighted at the international attention the Competition has received. We’ve gotten registrations from Russia and China to Lichtenstein and Malta!” Potomac Valley Brick President, Alan Richardson said.

The BrickStainable Competition, created and organized by Potomac Valley Brick of Rockville, Maryland, is intended to raise the awareness of clay brick masonry as a sustainable building material and a key component in the development of energy efficient residential and commercial buildings. Harry Allman of Belden Brick, a returning 2010 BrickStainable sponsor was quoted, “… as a sustainable product, I think that of all the building materials in the world, brick is the one and only material that will look just as good today as it does 100 years from now.”

Final design submissions for BrickStainable are due by December 15th. The top winner will receive a $10,000 cash award and a trip to DC where the Competition Awards Ceremony at the National Building Museum will take place. Honorable mentions will receive a cash prize of $2,000. The 2009 Awards Event received great reviews and is expected to draw greater attendance this year.

“It goes without saying that (the 2009) BrickStainable banquet was one of the top three events in my 33 year career in the brick industry,” pronounced Joe Edwards of Lawrenceville Brick.
