By

Richard L. "Rick" Phelps, Sr., age 59, of Clearwater, Florida, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013, at his home.

Richard Lance Phelps was a successful entrepreneur. Since 1979 he worked principally as the president and CEO of Quality Precast Company. His tireless resolve to grow and expand his family business led him, with the help of his brothers, to found several businesses in the construction industry.

Rick’s love for the outdoors included many recreational pursuits like fishing and hunting, as well as traveling in his motor home. He loved to see the beauty of America and explored many of our countries national parks. His trips were often accompanied by his daughter Joy, in whom he helped to foster a love for nature that has shaped the course of her life. Rick used his success to help sponsor of many land and animal conservation efforts as well as App State’s football team.

Rick’s appreciation for the majestic Appalachians steered he and his wife Linda to build their dream home in the North Carolina high country. He lived out his last days chasing his dogs around the yard, watching the deer and turkeys, and enjoying the sunsets over Grandfather Mountain.

Rick is survived by his wife, Linda Roberts Phelps of the home; two daughters, Joy Torrence and husband Crisler of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Patricia Gray of Thonotassa, Florida; one son, Richard L. Phelps, Jr. of Thonotassa, Florida; his mother, Sara Frazier Phelps of Brandon, Florida; two brothers, John M. Phelps and wife Cheryl, and Robert M. Phelps and wife Cindi, all of Brandon, Florida. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and a great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Victor H. Phelps.

Online condolences may be sent to the Phelps family at www.hamptonfuneralnc.com.
