WOC announces 2015 Artistry Demo winners

Troy Lemon wins Experts’ Choice, First Place

For more than 10 years, World of Concrete’s Artistry in Decorative Concrete Demonstrations have showcased work from some of the most creative and talented individuals in the decorative concrete industry. This year's crop was no exception. Expert judges had a hard time narrowing projects down to two winners.

Nevertheless, a panel of expert judges from ASCC's Decorative Concrete Council chose two artisans to win a $700 First Place and a $300 Second Place Experts’ Choice Award. The 2015 winners are:

Experts’ Choice, First Place

Troy Lemon

Cornerstone Decorative Concrete, Holland, Mich.
Lemon created a monumental abstract sculpture of carved and hand-formed concrete, set off by a subtly patterned backdrop wall and floor. The entire project was hand-colored with stains and dyes, including some metallics.

Experts’ Choice, Second Place

Scott Kummer

Visions Below LLC, Laguna Niguel, Calif.
Kummer produced an environmental piece with cast-concrete planters and a Rapid Set terrazzo-like floor in a color wheel pattern using zinc strips to separate the colors. His demo also included a highly polished tabletop, set on a heavy wood base, which contained aggregates of recycled glass, natural stones, mineral, and petrified wood.

The Artistry in Decorative Concrete program provides a platform for artisans to show off their skills; it also gives World of Concrete attendees the chance to learn about developments in the products and techniques artists are using to expand the decorative concrete business.
