In this session, attendees will hear about the two most important materials you use to build masonry walls—mortars and grouts. First, learn how to achieve high quality, economical, and workable mortars. Mortar topics include: workability and retempering, sand requirements, types of mortars, measuring, admixtures, lime, coloring and testing. Second, learn the proper techniques and procedures for grouting masonry walls including block cells, columns, cavities and collar joints. Grout topics include: mixes for hot and cold weather, pump equipment, high- and low-lift grouting, reinforcement, vibration and testing.
