The QUIKRETE Companies, leading manufacturer of packaged concrete products for the building and home improvement markets, recently donated 1,800 care packages to Catholic Charities USA for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in New Jersey. More than 60 employees and family members of The QUIKRETE Companies assembled care packages valued at nearly $50,000 that were delivered to Catholic Charities agencies in Diocese of Trenton, Archdiocese of Newark, Diocese of Paterson, Diocese of Camden and Diocese of Metuchen.
“With the contributions of organizations like QUIKRETE, we're able to help thousands of local residents currently displaced or sheltering in place due to Hurricane Sandy,” said Joe Duffy, President for Catholic Charities for Diocese of Paterson. “Families in need of cleaning and comfort supplies that under normal circumstances are easily accessible, cannot get them. Thanks to QUIKRETE, my colleagues and I are able to provide some basic necessities to those fighting to put their lives back together.”
The QUIKRETE Companies filled 5-gallon buckets with supplies for infants, children adults like toiletries, flashlights, prepaid calling cards, winter clothing, diapers and nonperishable foods and toys. The care packages were loaded onto two tractor trailers and delivered to the five local Catholic Charities USA agencies, which disseminated them to various food pantries, shelters, service centers, group homes and churches.
“We're always happy to extend a helping hand to those facing unexpected adversity,” said Jim Winchester, The QUIKRETE Companies President. “Thankfully, Catholic Charities provides an avenue for us to have a meaningful impact on the lives of those in greatest need following Hurricane Sandy. I'm extremely proud of the contribution of our employees and their families in Connecticut that made this donation happen.”
