WDP wins 2013 ICRI Award of Excellence in Parking Structures

Houston Hobby Airport's Parking Structure Rehabilitation awarded

By

Whitlock Dalrymple Poston & Associates, Inc. has been named winner of the 2013 ICRI Award of Excellence in Parking Structures.

WDP Sr. Associate Keith Kesner, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., received the award on behalf of WDP at the awards dinner held at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago on November 14, 2013, during the ICRI Fall Convention.

WDP's award-winning solution for Houston Hobby Airport's Parking Structure Rehabilitation saved the airport system over $40 million and kept a vital capital asset in operation. The circa 1980, 1.2 million square foot concrete parking structure exhibited widespread visible signs of distress, and WDP Principal Randall Poston, Ph.D., P.E., S.E., led our structural engineering team's investigation and repair design. WDP's phased repair program was implemented over the course of 23 months at a cost below $10 million-ahead of schedule and under budget. The structure remained open throughout the repair process, allowing continued service and revenue generation. Based on service life modeling, the repair scheme extended the useable life of the structure by approximately 25 years.

The International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) bestowed its 2013 Award of Excellence in the Parking Structures category to WDP and Dr. Poston based upon the uniqueness of the project, the use of state-of-the-art engineering methods, use of materials, functionality, value engineering, and aesthetics.
