SAIA serves as the Secretariat for ASC A92

The Scaffold & Access Industry Association (SAIA) has been re-accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) under its recently revised policies and procedures for documenting consensus on SAIA-sponsored American National Standards. The revised procedures replace the previous version that was approved in January 2009.

“As an American National Standards developer for the operation of elevating and rotating aerial devices, work platforms and vertical devices primarily used to position personnel, SAIA is committed to the design, construction, testing, maintenance, inspection, training, use and operation of this equipment ,” DeAnna Martin, SAIA A92 Liaison said. “The revised provisions allow us to continue to serve the scaffold & access industry in this critical role. We appreciate the ongoing support that ANSI provides by establishing its essential requirements for due process and in re-accrediting SAIA as a standards developer.”

Since 1984, the SAIA has been developing safety guides for the aerial platform industry. The Scaffold & Access Industry Association is one of over 220 American National Standard Institute (ANSI)-Accredited Standards Developers that develop American National Standards.

SAIA serves as the Secretariat for the Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) A92, Aerial Platforms standards-developing committee. This committee facilitates a volunteer force of over 120 active participants through the ASC A92 Main committee and eleven subcommittees. “The hard work and dedication of the volunteers show their commitment to the industry and the U.S. standardization process. Thank you to the members and their companies for allowing them to participate”, said Dave Merrifield, ASC A92 Main Committee Chair.

The purpose of the standards is the prevention of accidents and injuries, as well as, establishing criteria for the manufacturers. The standards also aid the manufacturers, dealers, owners, users and operators of the platforms to understand their various responsibilities.
