By

The 2014 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® Regional Competition for the province of Quebec, Canada was held at the Casino Lac-Leamy in Gatineau, Quebec on June 14th, 2014. Eight (8) teams of brick masons and tenders vied for a competition spot in the 2015 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 National competition held in Las Vegas, Nevada. There, they will compete for over $100,000 in cash and prizes including a new 2015 Ford F-250 4x4 Super Duty XLT truck.

Gabriel Legault, a mason with Legault Masonry, Gatineau, Québec, and his mason tender, Maxime Legault, edged out the rest of the competition to take home first place. In one hour, Legault laid a total of 556 brick. Not only did first place carry the opportunity to compete in the 2015 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500 in Las Vegas for Gabriel, but it also came with a grand prize of $1,000. The SPEC MIX TOP CRAFTSMAN Award went to Kaven Tremblay-Painchaud, also with Legault Masonry, Gatineau, Québec, landing him a $500 prize. Isaac Legault, of Legault Masonry, Gatineau, Québec, finished as runner up taking home a prize of $300. Third place went to mason Cedric Bertho of Masonry Monette & Ste-Croix, Gatineau, Quebec, who received $200.

The 2014 SPEC MIX BRICKLAYER 500® Regional Competition for the province of Quebec was held at Builders' Fest. Since 2009, several partners from the construction industry, educational and employment sectors have hosted the event. A unique opportunity for young ones, their parents as well as the general public who are curious about a new career to see, touch and discover the aspects of construction and, who knows, discover a new passion.

Builders' Fest is as entertaining as it is educational, with games like the giant sand bag game using a boom lift and “Where is Waldo” using a scissor lift. Young people get to test their technical skills in hands-on workshops about different trades such as plumbing, electrical installation & repair, carpentry, bricklaying and many others. And on top of it all, everyone can safely access mini-shovels, skid steers and backhoes, all under the supervision of trained professionals. The two-day event attracts over 10,000 visitors.
