The 2015 Jury of Fellows from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has elected ALA Illinois member Scott Conwell to its College of Fellows. He will will receive this distinction at the Investiture Ceremony this May during the 2015 National AIA Convention in Atlanta, Georgia. As Director of Industry Development with International Masonry Institute (IMI), Scott has equipped thousands of architects with the knowledge and tools to design high performing buildings in brick, tile, and stone. His work has significantly elevated the quality in masonry buildings nationwide.
According to statement from AIA, “The AIA Fellowship program was developed to elevate those architects who have made a significant contribution to architecture and society, and who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession. Election to Fellowship not only recognizes the achievements of the architect as an individual, but also honors before the public and the profession a model architect who has made significant contributions to architecture and society on a national level.”
Scott is active with Hanley Wood publications and shows. He is a former editorial advisory board member of Masonry Construction Magazine, and a frequent presenter at Surfaces, CONSTRUCT, World of Concrete, and others. In his 20 years with IMI, he has delivered over 850 educational seminars in 27 states impacting over 37,000 attendees. He has lectured at architectural schools all over the country, years later to be reunited with those students as interns, and still later as licensed architects who continue to seek out his advice on masonry design. He is well-published and active on many masonry and tile industry committees. IMI’s Masonry Detailing Series (www.masonrydetails.org), under Scott’s creation, development, and production, is a preeminent resource providing guidance to architects designing with masonry, terrazzo, rainscreens, plaster, tile, and stone.
