Project Description

Great teams know that greatness comes from flawless execution of fundamentals.
Outstanding athletes have more than raw talent. They work harder than their opponents.
United in purpose, principle, and implementation.
Teamwork cannot happen without a home to develop young men.
Excellence is not only achieved at this level, it is exceeded.
Safety is the standard as the team executes the plan.

The Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center is much more than the perfect training and leadership center for perennial football power Utah Utes. It stands as an icon in its own right. This magnificent building is anchored by the strength of striking and imposing corbeled columns rising into the skyline like the majestic Wasatch Mountains just to the east. Just as the Wasatch Mountains are surrounded with beautiful rolling hills, the Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center is adorned with beautiful and graceful radius walls. This critical design element was created from utility sized stretcher brick relying on design and craftsmanship to make a perfect radius without steps, shadows or ridges. Rising and falling elevations not only create interest but inspire and symbolize the crescendo of a major college football program.
Utilizing various colors, sizes and textures, the Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center, like Utah Football stands out as the jewel of not only this historic campus, but it stands alone in the Pac 12 as the premier training facility in the conference and all of college football.
The construction of the Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center was as complex as one of Coach Whittingham’s offensive strategies. Thanks to the unified teamwork of the craftsman at VCBO, IMS Masonry, and Layton Construction, the complex elevation was mastered and each element was constructed with the precision that cannot be accomplished without the important established and finely honed fundamentals of: leadership, a solid plan, preparation, and finally safe and flawless execution by every team member. Each and every day throughout the project this was the standard; making this magnificent facility not only a winner now, but for generations to come!
As former Pac 12 coach of UCLA Red Sanders said: “Winning isn’t everythingâ€_â€_.it’s the only thing!â€ù For the team at IMS Masonry, nothing could be more true!
Congratulations VCBO Architects, Layton Construction, IMS Masonry, The University of Utah Utes, and the citizens of the great state of Utah! You are all champions with the Spence and Cleone Eccles Football Center.
