Waterproofing Product Types and Systems
Provider: Informa
Discipline: General
Credits: 1.50
The building envelope extends below grade to include buried plazas, foundations walls, and underslab. Building envelope systems are often called membranes, which include waterproofing, damp-proofing, and/or vapor barriers/retarders. This program will outline distinct classes or location-types of waterproofing systems: exposed plazas, covered plazas, foundation and blindside walls, and underslab. Included in the discussions will be the six basic classifications of membranes that exist and the categorization of various products. Vapor permeation will be defined as it relates to breathe-ability. Product installation cost as it relates to performance as well as common defects will also be discussed.
1. Evaluate various membrane types such as waterproofing, damp-proofing and vapor barriers/retarders, their common applications and defects
2. Identify the distinct classes or location types of waterproofing systems: exposed plazas, covered plazas, foundation walls, blindside walls, and underslab
3. Define vapor permeation and the “perm rating” as it relates to breathe-ability
4. Measure product installation cost compared to performance
